When Loving You is Killing Me

Darren Burrell and Tracey White have been dating for two years, and Tracey is pushing hard to get Darren to put a ring on it. Wanting to settle down, hang up his jersey, and leave the game; Darren decides to pop the question although it’s to the dismay of his mother, who’s fully convinced Tracey has ulterior motives. When Darren’s successful sports agency comes under fire due to a scandal, his most respected clients start walking away faster than he can turn his head. As if the pressure of losing money isn’t enough, his mother, who’s battling cancer, takes a turn for the worse, forcing him to contact an agency to facilitate bringing in a live-in caretaker. Unbeknownst to the agency, they send Melody Reese, Darren’s former fiancée. With Darren’s primary concern being his mother, he feels allowing his former fiancée, someone he’s familiar with, to care for her, is the best decision. The problem is, he has to find a way to keep that secret away from his new fiancée—who doesn’t know who Melody is. As the burden gets heavier by the day, Darren emotionally disconnects from his newfound engagement, leaving Tracey’s insecurities, and secrets, to fester. When the CEO of the accounting firm Tracey works for, Johnson Lovett, shows up at Darren’s door, those secrets are revealed, and her web of deceit entangles everyone involved. Melody, who’s been observing it all, finds herself pushing back old feelings she thought she’d successfully buried. She and Darren had once been connected by love, but being detached by life proved too much for them, and neither was willing to save the relationship. Now, with Darren fighting for his business, his mother, and his overall sanity, Melody feels responsible for saving him from drowning—and from Tracey. With a little help from Darren’s best friend, Josh, she’s able to pull Darren out of a fake love that’s threatening to kill him. When Loving You Is Killing Me is an inspirational stage play that will leave audiences reeling from emotion and realizing the importance of having a love that’s trusted.
